Puppy School Report

This whole school thing is still really new to me and I’m trying to figure it out. Our whole first class all we did was practice sitting and staring and listening to our own names. I don’t see what the big deal is. Honestly I already know this stuff, any time I’m not laying down or standing up I am sitting. That is A LOT of the time, so why do I have to practice it? Also I am guaranteed to be staring at whatever I happen to be looking at, so again, why the practice? To top it off I know my name. If I decide to acknowledge you using my name you should get the treat not me. It basically means I think you’re cool, so go ahead, treat yourself.

Class went kind of like this. Mom would ask me to do something so I would do it. Then the teacher would come over to watch and I wouldn’t do it very well but I’d still do it for mom. Next the teacher would try to use me as an example of better training technique and I would refuse completely to do what was asked. I told you I was a one man dog, what did they expect? Mom said this is kind of embarrassing and the teacher said we should practice lots at home.

When we practice at home I am SO good at it that mom said its hard to practice! I sit down and I stay sat. Mom said she can’t reward me for sitting when I’m already sat already. None of this makes sense so I just sit and stare at her. She walks around in circles and waves her arms and I just sit and stare. This is the point right?

There is a pit-bull named Rigley that reminds me of my old best-bud Pedro from my first house. I really want to play with him but they said I have to wait until the second class for that. I’m looking forward to next Monday when we get a little free time!

  1. Ah, Digsby - that does sound familiar. My advice is to just keep staring at your mum, they really like that.

I think of training as one big opportunity to earn treats - I get treats for doing the right thing or even just looking like I MIGHT be about to do the right thing. It's a win win situation!

Hopefully you will get up to the more interesting stuff soon.

  2. Diggsby!

Man, you are totally doing the Airedale version of obedience. We don't tend to listen to everyone who thinks they should tell us what to do. The main thing is that you do it for your mama.

Free time sounds more like your style. Can't wait to hear how that goes. Hope the little pitty guy becomes your buddy.

    Goober love,

  3. You sound like you're doing a great job to us! It takes a few classes to get the hang of it Digsby! Knowing your name is very important! You don't want to miss out on anything fun when your names is called!

    Love ya lots

  4. Sit & Stare. Good work! Hootie gets excited when he knows he's going to class, even though they don't really give the pups any free time to play together. Afraid they'll hatch an evil plot I think. he he. Hang in there Digsby, the treats are worth it! Smooches from pooches, BabyRocketDog & Hootie

  5. Keep up the good work Digsby, you will get your hooman trained in no time at all!
